Tom is from my color spectrum series, where each portrait focuses on a single hue. I often paint these when I have migraines and try to challenge myself with painting only in one main color, and often a color I don't love. With these I feel as if the color and migraine are working together and the persona and personality come to the canvas without any consideration on my part of who they will be when finished. Yet when I am done with them I feel close to them, as if I have an actual relationship with each person, hence calling them my imaginary friends. Tom is framed in an elaborate black frame. Acrylic on stretched canvas 11"x14".
