I am taking a 5 day workshop in Palm Desert, with Caroline Jasper, who I consider my color mentor. She does primarily landscapes, so I probably will wind up doing one or two this week, but today I got to cheat and sneak in painting a girl. Color already is my thing and I would hesitate to take a workshop in color from anyone but Caroline, but in my mind she is a bit of a color god.
Today I focused on value, and the main lesson I am taking home from her today, and hope to apply to my work in the future is that value is just as important, or maybe even more so, as color.
I have enjoyed working in watercolor lately. I love the flow of the paint from the brush even though it can be unforgiving and some works have gone straight to the trash. This is Hope, and its the bird who is named Hope not the girl. its about finding little rays of hope when you have every reason not to see them. I painted it for the women in my life who are or have struggled with cancer.
I will be carrying this trading card original painting with me in my bag. The first person I see in person, who mentions they saw it here and asks for it gets it. This will be the first of several mini works I will be giving away in random contests. Stay tune for more that I will be giving away at particular shows or for those who can answer trivia questions about my inspiration and art journey.
